1920 - Fourteenth Census of the United States

General Information
Arizona and New Mexico were both made states in 1912, bringing the total to 48 states, and Alaska became an official territory in 1912.

Content
The 1920 census schedules listed every person in a household including:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Relationship to head-of-household
  • Name of street and number of house
  • Sex
  • Color (race)
  • Birthplace
  • Occupation
  • Marital status and number of years in a marriage
  • Number of children born to a mother
  • Number of children still living at the time of the census
  • Number of years in the U.S.
  • Birthplace of father and mother
  • Whether parents were of foreign birth
  • Whether able to read or write, speak English or attended school within the previous year

Soundex
There are hand-entered Soundex indexes for 1900, which were created by the WPA. These are complete for every head-of-household and for all states.
